Stacking The Shelves #101 & Sunday Post #64

I am combining two great blog hops:  Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer).  Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about.  I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription.  If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back!

I have begun to participate in the Amazon affiliate program, so if you click on any of the book covers it will take you to Amazon if you want to buy the book.  I will be getting a small fee for each purchase.

On The Blog:

In "Real Life":
This has been the strangest few weeks.  The horrible fires in the California wine country have not only created extreme air pollution with school closures in my area, I just found out my cousin lost his home to one of the fires.  I can't even begin to describe how devastating these fires have been.  I remember a weather broadcaster calling them "Urban wild fires".

New Books:

I was so delighted that Random House Audio placed Turtles All The Way Down and The Book Of Dust up for review.  I am already half way finished with The Book Of Dust, and it is so exciting!

I just love my public library system!  I have been on the waiting list for this book for several months, and it seems like an intriguing book.

That's it for this week.  What books are you excited to read right now?  Let me know in the comments.

    1. Thank you, Jessica. I have been binging on The Book of Dust. If you have read The Golden Compass, you will need to read this book!

    1. I haven't been up to Sonoma yet, but I probably will go soon. My brother in law and my cousin both live up there. We were really concerned that my BIL's house would be destroyed, but it was my cousin's house that was hit. So many people are devastated by this catastrophe.

  3. I should reread some of Pullman's work! I read it so long ago now, I don't know if I'd appreciate the new one. Hope you keep enjoying the new books!

    1. I would read The Book of Dust first and then read The Golden Compass. This is a prequel to that book, so I think The Golden Compass would make more sense after reading this new book. That's my plan, anyway.

  4. Sorry about your cousin’s house and all the wildfires. We get lots of grassfires around here, but they usually get put out pretty quickly.

    1. Thank you. It was so strange because these were fully populated areas. Especially in Santa Rosa, entire neighborhoods were destroyed.

    1. Thank, Gaybie. My brother-in-law lives in Sonoma, and my cousin lives in Santa Rose. My cousin's house was destroyed, and the fire got within half a mile of my BILs house. I have never seen a situation that was as bad.

  8. The fire situation sounds terrible. I remember one year when I was living in FL, we were having fires, and there would be ash on our cars and the air quality was terrible. My heart goes out to you and everyone who has lost so much. I am eager to hear your thoughts on Turtles. I am JG trash, but am hearing a lot of mixed reviews, however, I am sure I will still read it eventually.

    1. It will be interesting to read just because he hasn't published a book in six years! About the fires: the air quality was so bad schools in my area (a good 50 miles away) were closed for two days! Thankfully, I personally did not lose anything, but my cousin lost his home. We are still trying to see what we can do to help. But he did have insurance.

  9. I have only read two books written by John Green. His new book does sound really interesting. The title alone makes me want to read it.

    1. Hi Nina. Thanks for following! This is the first by John Green in over six years so I think that is why people are freaking out over it. I am going to an event on November 1st with him and Hank Green presenting a whole show. My teens and are are excited.

  10. You got The Book of Dust! Wow, so jealous! That is awesome. Super exciting, just as you say! Can't wait till I get a sale price on that. It's probably gonna take a decade, lol.

    1. I just finished it last night, and it was incredible. Now I want to re-read the whole series to put everything I just learned in context. Go to the library to get a copy. I'm sure they will have several because the demand should be very high. But if you can, listen to the audio book version. Michael Sheen is the narrator and he is amazing!!!

    1. Thanks Ronyell. It's really other members of my family that are affected. But I feel terrible that so many people lost their homes. It's a reminder that our lives can change in an instant.
